So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 Episode 1

I am a big fan of dance, and of course of So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD). It always makes me sad that SYTYCD is not shown in my country. The only consolation is that I can always go online and stream or download an episode. But it's not always easy. More often than not, I arrive at misleading websites. I know I can watch the routines on YouTube. But it's just not the same. The experience is so much better when you watch the whole episode. That's why I am so glad to have found a YouTube user who uploads the whole episode of SYTYCD 9. Here is the first episode.

You can also watch it on YouTube. Thanks so much to adolphdias1!

SYTYCD 9 Auditions

So You Think You Can Dance 9 Auditions just finished. I really don't know how to blog about it. Good thing I found this really cool YouTube channel that has a SYTYCD 9 playlist. It includes some of the auditions and Las Vegas week. Check out the playlist below.

Tadd and All-Star Lauren - Jazz

Tadd Gadduang and All-Star Lauren Froderman (season 7 winner) danced a jazz routine choreographed by Mandy Moore. Music: Another One Bites the Dust by Queen

What Can I Say?
Tadd looked really comfortable in this routine. It has a really cool vibe to it. And I think this kind of style suits him perfectly. As for Lauren, she was amazing as always. She was very sexy. Of course, Tadd was also giving his own share of sexiness. It was a good pairing. The choreography was sleek. I'm really loving Mandy Moore. All in all, it was a great performance, too bad Tadd's hat fell.

So You Think You Can Dance 9 Premiere

So You Think You Can Dance has returned!

Source

I am so excited for the 9th season of SYTYCD. I hear there will be format changes again this season. For the first time, there will be TWO WINNERS. One male and one female will win this season.

Cat Deeley returns as the host. Of course, resident judges Nigel Lythgoe and Mary Murphy are also coming back. The guest judges for the auditions are Debbie Allen, Lil' C, Tyce Diorio, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Adam Shankman. Based on this announcement, I guess it means Adam won't be a permanent judge this season.

By the way, the show's 200th episode will take place this season. Really exciting!

Read more here (Season 9 Premiere and Format Changes) and here (Season 9 Schedule).

Tadd and All-Star Ellenore - Contemporary

Tadd Gadduang and All-Star Ellenore Scott (season 6) danced a contemporary routine choreographed by Sonya Tayeh. Music: The Gulag Orkestar by Beirut

What Can I Say?
This routine is crazy! I love Tadd and Ellenore. I was amazed at the unique stunts that he is capable of doing. And I kinda agree with Nigel here. When Sonya and Ellenore come together, it's bound to be epic and crazy. Tadd is so strong. There is no doubt that he pulled the routine quite nicely. But I kinda see where Nigel is coming from when he said he wished there would have been more dancing. I agree. No doubt that the routine was sick. But there's just too much stunts going on and very little dancing. But, nevertheless, it was amazing. There are so many great pictures created. I hope this won't land Tadd in the bottom because I really want him in the finale!

Marko and All-Star Janette

Marko Germar and All-Star Janette Manrara (season 5) danced a Paso Doble routine choreographed by Dmitry Chaplin. Music: Zorongo (Traditional) by Antonia Gomez, Ely "La Gambita", Guillermo Basilisco & Paco Peña

What Can I Say?
I love Marko and Janette. I don't want to say anything bad about Marko. This style of dance is just not for Marko.

Sasha and All-Star Kent - Contemporary

Sasha Mallory and All-Star Kent Boyd (season 7) danced a contemporary routine choreographed by Tyce Diorio. Music: Fool of Me by Me'Shell Ndegeocello

What Can I Say?
Normally, I'm not mad about Tyce's choreography. And for this season, Sasha isn't one of my favorites. But right now, this routine just made me love Sasha. She's starting to grow on me. She just went beyond Melanie on my list of favorites. And of course, I loved Kent in season 7. The routine was breathtaking. I can't describe how wonderful I felt while watching it. It was passionate. It wasn't too full of rage or anger. It's like their movements are very calculated and calm. Yet you can feel the intensity radiating from them. It's just so beautiful. Kent's pirouettes were amazing. And the lift where Sasha jumped on Kent's shoulder was the bomb! I loved it! And that last lift, it was the perfect finish. Perfect picture at the end!

Melanie and All-Star tWitch - Hiphop

Melanie Moore and All-Star tWitch Boss (season 4) danced a hiphop routine choreographed by NappyTabs. Music: Roman's Revenge by Nicki Minaj Ft. Lil Wayne

What Can I Say?
I always love NappyTabs. I think they are creative and their storytelling is amazing. I also love Melanie and tWitch. But I'm not as excited about this routine as the judges were. I don't know why. I can see how strong Melanie is. She matched tWitch the whole time. But I still haven't seen her grow. I still think she's being way too safe with the styles she is getting. It doesn't show her range as a dancer.

Jess and All-Star Lauren - Hiphop

Jess LeProtto and All-Star Lauren Gottlieb (season 3) danced hiphop choreographed by NappyTabs. Music: Take a Bow by Rihanna

What Can I Say?
I love Nappytabs. However, I feel that this particular routine isn't as memorable as their other routines. As for Jess, I like him. I think he's a great guy and a great dancer. But there's just something missing. Whenever I see him do hiphop, he reminds me so much of Evan (season 5). They're both Broadway dancers and just very sweet guys. But for reasons I don't know, I can't seem to remove that image of their sweet, smiling faces even when they're dancing different styles. And I think it has something to do with their height as well. Most times, their partners are noticeably taller than them.

Melanie and All-Star Neil - Contemporary

Melanie Moore and All-Star Neil Haskell (season 3) danced a contemporary routine choreographed by Mandy Moore. Music: Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler.

What Can I Say?
Wow! Mandy Moore is fast becoming one of my favorite contemporary choreographers on SYTYCD. She's been doing some great choreographies lately. I've forgotten how good Neil is. He's very strong and reliable. Melanie is like a different person when she's dancing. There are no traces of the playful and somewhat impish girl. I really love Melanie. However, I feel that I'm getting a little tired of seeing her do almost the same things every week. She's done contemporary a lot of times already. I don't think she's being challenged much and she isn't given the chance to show what else she can offer.

I just have to give a shoutout to that fearless jump she made. Really awesome!

Caitlynn and All-Star Ivan - Hiphop

Caitlynn Lawson and All-Star Ivan Koumaev (season 2) danced a hiphop routine choreographed by Marty Kudelka. Music: Let Me Love You by Mario

What Can I Say?
I loved Ivan in season 2. I had this sort of schoolgirl crush on him. Who wouldn't? He's such a cutie. Anyway, about Caitlynn, I'm not a big fan of her but I think she did a decent job here. Although, I personally think the dance didn't really stand out. It's not their fault. The choreography was smooth and decent but not very memorable. It was good but not excitingly good.

So You Think You Can Dance

I'm a dance addict. Dance is a big part of me. It is, for me, a way of life. So I'm creating a whole label for dance and for my favorite dance show So You Think You Can Dance.

I'm a big fan of So You Think You Can Dance, and I know it's a little bit late to start posting about the earlier seasons. So I'll just go on and start with the current one, which is season 8. And along the way, I might post about some of my favorites from previous season.
